Excision, Canada’s sensational dubstep artist is bringing his signature sounds to Aragon Ballroom!
Excision (birth name Jeff Abel) was born in 1986 in Kelowna (British Columbia, Canada) and is a music producer and DJ. He began his musical journey in 2005 by dropping out of University of British Columbia to produce music and be a DJ. He was inspired by English electronic dance music group The Prodigy and he said in an interview, “The first electronic music I heard that stood out to me was the Prodigy’s ‘The Fat of the Land’. I loved it, but couldn’t find anything else even close to it. It wasn’t until 2005 that I discovered drum ‘n’ bass and the Vex’d album ‘Degenerate’ which showed me the extent of what dubstep and all electronic music is capable of.” His musical style falls under the dubstep genre but also includes elements of drum and bass, drumstep, trap, and hardstyle. He’s had a stellar career with 3 studio albums, 1 remix album, 5 extended plays, and 32 singles. He frequently collaborates with fellow Canadian dubstep producers Datsik and Downlink, as well as Dutch producer Dion Timmer. In 2004, he founded his own record label Rottun Recordings and he’s renowned for his Shambhala compilation albums and for his ear shattering sound system capable of producing 150,000 watts of bass.
