G-Eazy, California's sensational alternative hip hop artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Aragon Ballroom!
G-Eazy aka Young Gerald (birth name Gerald Earl Gillum) was born in Oakland in 1989 and is a rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He started his career producing numerous singles while he was attending university. His musical style is best described as a blend of alternative hip hop (a style that encompasses the wide range of hip hop styles that aren’t mainstream and draws from funk and rock, as well as jazz, soul, country, electronic, and even folk music), pop rap (a genre that fuses the rhythm based lyricism of hip hop music with pop music's preference for melodious vocals, catchy choruses, and lyrics that are often light hearted), and hyphy (a slang term for 'hyperactive' - created by West Coast rapper Keak da Sneak - that describes the music and the urban culture associated with Oakland). It was G-Eazy's collaboration with East Bay Area artists like Lil B, Crohn, and The Cataracs that started to attract mainstream recognition and it eventually led to him being the opening act for renowned artists like Lil' Wayne and Snoop Dogg. His 2014 debut album (These Things Happen) was critically acclaimed and hit #3 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
