John Howard Carpenter was born in Carthage (New York) in 1948 and is a film director, screenwriter, producer, editor, composer, and musician. He's best known for directing horror, action, and science fiction films and many of his movies (Halloween, Dark Star, Assault on Precinct 13, The Thing, They Live, Christine, to name a few) have become cult classics. He's also composed/co-composed the scores of most of his films and he's released 2 studio albums, 1 remix album, and 1 extended play. His latest album (titled Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998) comes out on October 20th 2017 and it revisits a handful of his most classic film scores. It's a project done in collaboration with his son (Cody) and godson (Daniel Davies) and it features 13 re-recorded versions of past works, including the unforgettable themes from films such as Dark Star, Vampires, Halloween, They Live, and The Fog. It also features John covering the minimalist yet memorable arrangement for The Thing by Ennio Morricone. Award winning German composer Hans Zimmer and many renowned film makers (most notably, James Cameron, Quentin Tarantino, Guillermo del Toro, and Danny Boyle) cite John as a significant influence on their work.
