Queens of the Stone Age (sometimes stylized as QotSA) was formed in Palm Desert (California) in 1996 by vocalist/guitarist Josh Homme. The band's been through many line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Josh Homme (lead vocals, guitar, and piano), Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, lap steel guitar, keyboards, synthesizers, percussion, and backing vocals), Michael Shuman (bass guitar, synthesizers, and backing vocals), Dean Fertita (keyboards, synthesizers, guitar, percussion, and backing vocals), and Jon Theodore (drums, percussion, and samplers). Their musical style is best described as a blend of hard rock (a loosely defined subgenre of rock music featuring heavy use of aggressive vocals, distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, and often accompanied with pianos and keyboards), stoner rock (a genre which combines elements of heavy metal, psychedelic rock, blues rock, alternative metal, space rock, and doom metal), and alternative metal (a genre that infuses heavy metal with influences from alternative rock and other genres not normally associated with metal). They’ve had a stellar career with 7 studio albums, 3 live albums, 5 extended plays, 14 singles, 20 music videos, and 1 video album.
